Abstract

The analysis performed by the members of the examination board to which we submitted during the General Qualification Examination resulted in the indication to the direct doctorate, considering the set of possibilities that the discussions and analyses carried out up to now in the master's research lead, revealing a higher level complexity of the elaboration of thought. Initially, we proposed an understanding of the credit, loyalty and locational strategies of the magazines selected for study (Coppel, Havan, Lojas Americanas, Pernambucanas, Tanger and Torra-Torra) as elements that are, in a certain way, independent of one another in the analysis of the means offered to achieve consumption. However, the articulation between these three elements showed an evident and significant in the contemporary period, because, from the geographical point of view, we are not interested in analyzing credit only as a form of payment or indebtedness, because it also fulfills other roles in contemporary society, such as, for example, the link between the sectors, promoting the expansion of consumption and production potential, and promoting the link between individuals, as well as being a spatial choice factor. Likewise, we are also not interested in analyzing loyalty only as the return of the consumer to a store, but rather to verify the spatial dimension necessary to make that individual return. In view of this new organization of thought, new actions are necessary that were not foreseen in the initial project. Thus, this project aims not only to continue the reflections and analysis of the research developed at the masters level, financed by Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo (FAPESP) - Process 2014/26129-2, but mainly to expand the discussions and the level of complexity of thought by articulating three elements that, in the contemporary period, cannot be analyzed in a compartmentalized way. In addition, we intend to demonstrate, through a review of the literature on the classic theories of locational studies, that there is currently a set of factors that were not considered previously, but which are now fundamental to understand the spatial distribution of companies, as for example, the articulation between the multiple geographical scales.
