Abstract

This project aims to carry out part of the collaborative research proposed on the Sprint Project (16/50460-6) between the University of Campinas and the University of Barcelona and part of Doctorate (2016/07911-7). The Brazilian research group has a Young Research Project (JP) dedicated to the investigation of urban wastewater disinfection and water reuse, while the Spanish research group's focus is on the removal of emerging contaminants by advanced oxidation technologies. The PhD student has a FAPESP scholarship devoted to the study of disinfection by advanced oxidation. Her visit to the University of Barcelona will complement and benefit both JP and the PhD scholarship projects. One of the specific objectives of the doctoral project is to verify the removal of some industrial contaminants, such as additives and detergents (nonylphenol and phthalates). With this collaboration, the removal of other compounds called emerging contaminants (CE) will also be possible. These compounds begin to be legislated in Europe and the USA after several research projects have identified compounds that can be used as indicators of EC removal. Among these contaminants, we can find pharmaceuticals, pesticides, hormones and personal care products. 17-ethinyl estradiol, benzotriazole, diclofenac, mecoprop, sulfamethoxazole, terbutry were the compounds chosen to be the subject of this complementary investigation.
