Abstract

Water supply systems aim to supply water in appropriate quantity and quality to the population in order to meet their requirements. In these systems, the catchment and the transportation of water are done by means of hydraulic pumps. As the price of electric energy is differentiated during the hours of the day, having a higher value in the peak period, it is necessary to plan the operation of the hydraulic pumps, in order to avoid their operations at the peak period. In this research project, a relax-and-fix heuristic is proposed for solving the mixed integer optimization mathematical model for planning the operation of hydraulic pumps in supply systems. Numerical tests with data from the supply system of the city of São Carlos will be performed to analyze the efficiency of the proposed heuristic. The solutions obtained by the heuristic will be compared with the solutions obtained by the CPLEX solver. (AU)
