Abstract

Diverse processes differentiated the trajectory of the knowledge/thought that we conceive today as geographic. Human history reveals that in various periods, man and his subjective and material environment have grounded elements for the realization of characteristics that together give substance to knowledge, and the geographical one does not escape the rule. In different ways and in different ways, geographers from different institutions were engaged in the exercise of understanding geographic knowledge. The materialization of this occupation was crystallized, among other results, in dissertations and theses. The purpose of this project, therefore, is to understand the studies in the Brazilian postgraduate that turned to the thought and the geographic knowledge as objects of investigation, which we understand, however, as studies of knowledge. We believe, therefore, that knowledge is a synthesis of knowing and thinking. In this state of things, we identify that the study of knowledge as object in Brazilian Geography is investigated through two dimensions of analysis: one is historical and the other is theoretical-conceptual and propositional. Within these two dimensions is concentrated a set of other research themes. Dissertations and theses were distributed in detail between these dimensions and other sub-axes, revealing authors, research objects, where they were performed and when they were completed. In fact, the authors and their respective objects of analysis are not out of time and space, since they are products of a historical patrimony that precedes them, for there are what we call the roots of which are inextricably heirs. These roots, however, do not respond and neither do they allow us to decipher the current state of Brazilian Geography. Such roots were propulsive for the birth of constellations of geographers that have like identity a subject of research in common. We intend, therefore, to analyze a part of Brazilian academic production (dissertations and theses) in Geography at the national level, whose specificity are the historical and epistemological studies of knowledge and geographical thought in the condition of object between 1944 and 2014, through the notions of roots And constellations and, at the same time, ascertain and prove that studies of knowledge and geographical thought can not be investigated separately. In this sense, we will compare knowledge as a synthesis of knowing and thinking, elevated to the condition of object. (AU)
