Abstract

Based on the studies of David Roas (2014) and Irlemar Chiampi (2008), this research aims to study the aspects of fantastic and marvelous-realism genres on literary fiction, doing so specifically to analyze the narratives of the Brazilian short-story and novel writer José J. Veiga (1915-1999). Via a comparative approach, the research will appropriate these contemporary perspectives on the fantastic-marvelous genre studies to propose a new reading set in order to analyze distinct characteristics of José J. Veiga's fiction. Thus, this investigation intends to provide new approaches on Veiga's fiction, comparing these contemporary perspectives to former readings based on other theoretical backgrounds such as Todorov's The Fantastic: A Structural Approach to a Literary Genre.
