Abstract

Glycerin is a good substitute for starchy foods which helps prevent metabolic and digestive problems caused by high consumption. Thus, will be done comparison of levels of glycerin addition in the diet of Mini-Horse on maintenance. It was used eight Mini-Horse breed male and castrated with age approximately 9 years ± 6 months and average body weight (BW) of 156.06 ± 18.13 kg. The animals will be housed in individual stalls. Individual daily consumption of 1.75% of BW will be adopted with 1% of BW in dry matter (DM) of bulky and 0.75% of BW in DM of concentrate, divided into two daily meals with water ad libitum. The experimental design will be one 4 x 4 latin square and the experimental unit being the animal within each experimental period. The diets differ in glycerin inclusion level (0, 4, 8 and 12%) which will calculated related to the percentage of concentrate supplied per animal. The evaluation will be carried out in four periods, 14 days of adaptation to the diet, 5 days of total collection of feces (TCF) and 2 weeks of interval among periods. The total apparent digestibility of the nutrients will be evaluated from the TCF of the animals allocated in concrete bays without bed. The glycemic, insulinemic, hepatic and renal function, triglycerides, cholesterol and NEFA analysis will evaluate with blood samples collected on the second day of TCF. The evaluation of the pH will be done by means of pH meter. The feeding and water behavior of the animals will evaluate by means of cameras installed in the bays and observation. The data will submitt to analysis by the Statistical Analysis System (SAS Institute Inc., 2010). (AU)
