Abstract

Confined chemistry offers good possibilities for catalysts, sensor and drug carriers chemistry. Including guest molecules in organic macrocycles, change significantly their reaction mechanisms, by reducing degrees of freedom and by creating local force-fields that depend of the host-guest pair structure and relative orientation. The bambus[6]uril (BU[6]) macrocycle is relatively new, and it has gained attention for forming stable caviplexes with anions. Furthermore it is prepared with cheap reagents, allowing commercial applications. However, there are no information in the literature about the formation of complexes with hard cations such as lanthanoids for example, and this should be possible. Preliminary studies in our group have shown the formation of stable caviplexes with trihalides containing chloride ions, bromine and iodine, with we still know little about them. Cavitands like bambus[n]urils may serve also for the preparation of special materials for environmental decontamination, is the form of films or sponges. This project aims the study of the properties, structure and reactivity of BU[6]-trihalides, of its complexes with common lanthanoids and the obtention of sponges with poly-(urethane) and BU[6].
