Abstract

The determination and characterization of the photophysical and the photochemical properties of selected compounds, namely phthalimide derivatives, photoacids and photobases among others, aimed to the development of new materials, constitutes the core of the present project. Starting from the synthesis of various bisimides and selected photoacids, the study ranges from the determination of their photo-characteristics to their interaction with biomimetic agents as micelles, films, monolayer and cavitandsas cielodextrins, and further to their application as therapeutic agents in the approach known as Photodynamic Therapy. The structural and analytical aspects of the various systems in study (films, polymers, monolayer) are tacked by small angle X-ray diffraction, light scattering (static and dynamic), and fluorometry (time resolved and stationary), added to the development of highly sensitive reflected thermal lens and phototermal deflection techniques. The structure of biomimetic aggregates is focused in the study of the urea effect on these aggregates and in small peptides where besides its intrinsic interest in comprehend the de naturation mechanism it allows to modulate the aggregation pattern of the system.
