Abstract

Obtaining the photophysical properties and its time resolved dependence to organic or inorganic compounds using several spectroscopic techniques is extremely important for the understanding of photophysical and photochemical processes, which may be applied in specific research such as photobiological, applied in several areas. With short laser pulses systems, studies with temporal resolutions became more simplified and allowed an understanding of the evolution of photophysical processes in time, such as absorption of excited states, intersystem crossing process, among others. Excited states and their absorptions and temporal evolution, not observed in stationary spectroscopy measurements, could be identified and analyzed in a new point of view, opening new descriptions of the effects induced by light just after the absorption. Within this scope, this project aims to determine the photophysical properties of new free based Corrols molecules. These studies will be carried out in biological solvent media such as water and a 5 percent mixture of Dimethyl Sulfoxide in water. In addition to spectroscopic properties such as absorption and fluorescence, a detailed study of the fluorescence quantum yield and time-resolved fluorescence will be carried out on these media. All these photophysical obtained parameters are essential to determine triplet states formation. Furthermore, depending on the radiative or non-radiative decay rates, it will be possible to determine the application of the compounds for photodynamic therapy or inactivation of microbiological systems, such as fungi and bacteria.
