Abstract

This project involves three research lines: The optical diagnosis and study of different types of human tissues and fluids, confocal Raman study on human skin and finally application of fluorescence X-rays in dentistry. The main goal of the first line of research is to use the knowledge obtained in the study of cancers by the technique of FT-Raman spectroscopy in order to facilitate the in vivo real time optical diagnosis of cancer noninvasively (or minimally invasive). It will be used a dispersive Raman (Princeton) coupled to two different lasers of 785 and 830 nm, the FT-Raman system with 1064 nm, confocal Raman system with 785 and 671 nm and the system of infrared imaging spectroscopy (FT -IR) Spotlight 400. In the second research line, we will studied by in vivo confocal Raman spectroscopy , the biochemical composition of human skin by different age groups and in different layers. Finally, the last line of research approach the study of changes in organic and inorganic components of human dentin after the use of laser irradiation of Er: YAG laser with low energy densities. Dr. Ali Mehmood Ali is finishing his doctorate at Dublin Institute of Technology - Dublin, Ireland under the supervision of the renowned researcher Prof. Hugh J. Byrne chief FOCAS Research Institute, whose thesis is titled: Raman Spectroscopic imaging for the analysis of UV induced skin damage, which is aligned with our current line of research. Dr. Mehmood's degree in Biomedical Engineering and his Masters held at Aachen University of Applied Science and Technology Biomedical Engineering Division. Given his experience in vibrational spectroscopy of bio-systems, Dr. Mehmood will contributed with our research in dentistry, medicine, pharmacology and cosmeceuticals
