Abstract

The present research plan proposes to save fuel in the furnaces of reheating of the steel industry by preheating the combustion air and/or oxygen enrichment, as well as by preheating the load. The most important parameters in the operation of reheating furnaces will be identified by carrying out a literature review focusing on combustion textbooks and ovens in general and experimental scientific papers published in international journals. Once these parameters are identified, the information will be systematized to characterize the different alternatives that are presented in the fuel savings in such furnaces. Preheating the charge can be accomplished by using the heat remaining in the flue gases leaving the furnace, providing a heat transfer area between the charge and such gases. Air preheating is generally done to save fuel in the combustion processes, oxygen enrichment increases the temperature of the flue gases thereby helping to save fuel. By increasing the oxygen concentration in the combustion air, in addition to increasing the flame temperature, also the heat transfer rates and the efficiency of the combustion process increase. Both proposals will be evaluated for the purpose of improving the combustion process, increasing furnace stability, reducing emissions, increasing production, and reducing fuel costs and consumption. In the literature review, will be performed a collection of fuel data, air, flue gas and other important parameters. (AU)
