In vitro purple led and argon plasma analysis on the color alteration, mineral content, morphology and safety of dental bleaching

Abstract

The aim of this project in its first study is to evaluate the in vitro enamel color alteration, intrapulp concentration and enamel morphology alteration after tooth bleaching with a novel purple LED and argon plasma associated or not to peroxides. Moreover, the second study will address the mineral content alteration after the enamel is exposed to the same treatments. The studies will use bovine incisor teeth that either will have the crown maintained to the color, intrapulp and morphology evaluation (n=90) or will be cut into blocks to mineral content analysis. The two sort of specimens will be split into 9 treatment groups: 1) only PC 37%; 2) only PH 35%; %; 3) PC 37% + purple LED; 4) PH 35% + purple LED; 5) only purple LED; 6) PC 37% + plasma 7) PH 35% + plasma; 8) only plasma; 9) no peroxide and no light. Color analysis will be performed using the ”E calculation (color alteration before and after treatments measurements through a spectrophotometer). Furthermore, intrapulp penetration will be obtained by the optic density of the solutions collected from the pulp chamber as well as the mineral content will be evaluated by means of microscopic analysis (EDX and FT-RAMAN) and enamel microbiopsy. All the blocks will be selected after surface's microhardness test. Finally, data will be submitted to exploratory analysis to determine which statistical test is the most adequate. (AU)
