In vivo purple led analysis on the color alteration, tooth sensitivity and mineral content of dental bleaching

Abstract

The aim of this study is to clinically evaluate the efficacy and safety of the purple LED, a novel technology launched in the dental market claimed by the manufacturers as a bleaching agent. For this purpose, sixty patients will be selected after analysis of inclusion and excluion criteria and will be tested using only the purple LED or the LED associated with hydrogen peroxide (HP) or carbamide peroxide (CP). The elected patients will be seen in the postgraduate clinic facilities of the Piracicaba Dental School and will be divided into three groups: 1) CP/LED, 2) HP/LED, 3) LED. The bleaching treatments will be analyzed regarding color change by means of a hand spectrophotometer (”E will be then calculated). Tooth sensitivity will be subjectively measured using a pain visual scale. Additionally, mineral content change will be evaluated by means of enamel microbiopsy, applying HCl 1,6 M in a protected area of the upper premolar (15). Afterwards, data obtained will be submitted to exploratory analysis and to the most adequate statistical test. (AU)
