Abstract

the most common neoplasias, that affect the endocrine system occur in the thyroid gland. The number of cases has been increasing in recent years mainly among women. the pathological diagnosis are often imprecise leading to unnecessary surgeries procedures . In order to overcome this problem, there have been studies in the literature that use infrared imaging techniques for the extraction of biochemical relevant information to the differential diagnosis, such as bound iodine at thyroglobulin protein. However, these studies employ chemical dewaxing for histological sections prior to measurement. This procedure removes lipids from the sample as well as changes in the conformations of the proteins leading to changes in the spectra. Therefore the present proposal aims to apply a mathematical methodology of dewaxing and to establish a collaboration with the research group led by Prof. Cyril Gabinet who has been working on this line of mathematical methods for dewaxing.
