Abstract

Fungal infections represent an important complication and with a high morbidity and mortality in patients with hematological diseases who undergo immunosuppression and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). The mortality rates, in some studies reach 80%, which makes the search for early diagnosis the best strategy to obtain a higher survival rate. The use of image exams and biomarkers have been extensively studied in an attempt to ensure better results and, with the same intention, this project seeks to compare the different diagnosis methods and what they have to offer of advantages and disadvantages in the early establishment of the treatment of fungal infections. For this, will be analyzed the data of patients submitted to HSCT at the Hospital das Clínicas of São Paulo, who underwent computed tomography (CT) and serum galactomannan (GM), in addition to traditional methods such as culture, direct research and pathological anatomy. Through this information, we hope to contribute to the development of a rapid diagnostic strategy and to improve the approach of these pathologies in the context of immunosuppression. (AU)
