Abstract

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is a functional disorder characterized by recurrent abdominal discomfort or pain and may cause changes in bowel habits. Nutritional management for the reduction of IBS symptoms includes restriction of some foods, especially the FODMAPs - fermentable oligosaccharides, disaccharides, monosaccharides and polyols. Objective: to develop a digital dietary assessment tool that will make it more practical to apply a short Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ) to estimate the intake of FODMAPs in IBS patients. A photographic album will be elaborated with the source food portions of FODMAPs present in the short QFA, contemplating standard portions and minimum problematic portions for the onset of IBS symptoms. The digital dietetic tool will be developed in partnership with a member of the Faculty of Applied Sciences of UNICAMP of the course of Production Engineering and a student of scientific initiation of graduation of the same course, which will contain the short QFA and the photographic album. It is expected to develop a digital dietary assessment tool that works as a technological and innovative tool in the health area in Brazil with regard to irritable bowel syndrome and consumption of FODMAPs, focusing on foods common in the diet of Brazilians, contributing to the nutritional management of the disease in clinical practice and epidemiological research.
