Abstract

Proximal femoral fractures are frequent in the elderly, mainly affecting women, being one of the main causes of osteoarthrosis. With the aging process, the number of these fractures has increased. The purpose of the current study is to analyze the strain that occur in the proximal region of the femur, one normal and one with osteoarthrosis, through the Finite Element Method. To do so, this analysis was based on computed tomography of the femur of the Tomography Bank of the Hospital das Clínicas of Ribeirão Preto of the Faculdade de Medicina of Ribeirão Preto / USP. For the BioCAD design and Finite Element simulation, the Rhinoceros and SimLAb " programs (Altair / HyperWorks) will be used, respectively. The validation of the model will be performed comparing with the results of the photoelastic analysis of the strain. At the end of the project, it is expected that the results generated may provide a better understanding of the biomechanical, structural properties of bone, as well as the effects that the forces present in bones and fractures by professionals working in the medical field.
