Abstract

This project proposes an investigation about the publishing process of books. Researching two publishers in São Paulo, Companhia das Letras and Lote-42, through narratives of different characters, documents of each publisher and descriptions, aiming to understand the difference between the productions of their books today. This research intends to compose an anthropological study of the trajectory of the editorial production of these two houses. Considering relationships between different agents and materiality and the objectification of interests and editorial proposals in the books produced and marketed by each publisher, I will start from the idea that in the narrative of the trajectory of the subjects we can find the narrative of the trajectory of the publisher. With the choice of the two publishers, I will discuss the differences between "large" and "independent" publishers focusing on the production of books and relationships between editorial agents that involve the path from the original to the publication of the book as an object.
