Abstract The main object of this research was to analyze and understand the notion of 'necessity' expressed in the course of the De Deo. Because even though it was not defined at any moment this notion permeates all the argumentative trajectory of the Ethics I, therefore presenting itself as essential to the comprehension not only of this part but for the other four as well. For this purpose, the notion of necessity was analyzed regarding both natura naturans and natura naturata, thus covering its operation throughout all reality. From this double point of view on we are going to study in which senses the notion of necesssity presents itself in Spinozas work, i.e., whether the term is unequivocal, or if there is some kind of polysemy and if that is the case how could we interpret it.
