Abstract This project will approach the work of Henry Cowell in order to demonstrate the presence of experimental elements in it and to highlight him, through his actions in politics, editions, theory, musicological, performance and personal relations, as one of the main creators of the experimental aesthetics in formation and the consolidation of an American's Classical Music. In order to do it, founded upon a discussed and adopted concept of experimentalism and the existent bibliography on the subject, we will do an analysis of a significant group of works, musical and textual, of Cowell, enumerate many aspects of his acting in the musical world and trace a comparative and continuous line of his work considered experimental until the end of the first half of the Twentieth Century.
