Abstract

This study aims at the analysis of the concepts of redistribution and recognition within the framework of the critical theory of justice elaborated by Nancy Fraser. The research is part of the FAPESP / CEBRAP thematic Project: "Public Sphere and Reconstruction: on the constitution of a reconstructive paradigm in the field of critical theory" (Process 2014 / 11611-3), whose objective is to analyze the reconstruction of critical and normative categories and its link with time diagnosis in the field of critical theory, considering the public sphere as one of its research strands. In this context, the study tries to perceive how Fraser used such concepts to produce critical diagnoses of the present time regarding forms of injustice and social emancipation. It will be analyzed mainly the formulation that Fraser attributes to the concept of recognition, considering not only the criticisms that she points out to the use of this concept by other authors, but also her own formulation linked to a social theory based on the status model. For this purpose, it will be necessary to identify what constitutes the 'status model' and to understand its relationship with the normative criterion of justice based on "parity of participation" (a criterion in which the author can combine redistribution and recognition). Finally, it is intended to show that the status model is not static, but politically dynamic. For this reason, it must be considered that Fraser criterion of justice must always be produced within the context of disputes and negotiations that take place in the public sphere. (AU)
