Abstract

Ecosystems are dynamic and change over time. Their evolution can be complex, non-linear and unpredictable, as it has been studied in the ecological literature. These characteristics are relevant to habitat management and forest restoration activities. Besides that, the ecosystems could present a potential for sudden changes and can be more vulnerable than expected. In order to analyze the dynamics of ecosystems, the models of computational simulations have become promising tools of interest to several researchers. In this sense, the objective of the proposed research project is to develop a mathematical/computational model using the Cellular Automata concept capable of predicting a positive successional evaluation of a restoration experiment through direct sowing.
