Abstract

The internship proposal presented here comprises a period of twelve months, from August 2018 to July 2019. As indicated in the initial plan/project and the first report, the general objective of this stage of the research, to be carried out in the Department of African Studies at Brown University, is to do a comparative study between the Harvard University Department of African and African American Studies (notably, the WEB Du Bois Research Institute) and the Afro-Brazilian Studies Center at the Federal University of São Carlos. It is proposed, in this sense, to comparatively review the productions/publications in journals of the respective institutions from 1991 to 2014, trying to note the similarities and, above all, the differences in the way in which these departments and institutions conceive the African presence and influence on their respective national societies. This comparison, above all, aims at investigating how the notion of African diaspora, its different models and perspectives, emerge and articulate, theoretically and discursively, in the several productions and publications of these institutions.
