Abstract

The purpose of this academic research is to trace a theoretical path from the symptom conception in psychoanalysis considering it in relation with the language incidence in the body, inside a psychoanalytical perspective, but, at the same time, it takes in consideration the way the Language Sciences interact with key chosen reflections from Freud and Lacan. In a different way from the conceptions of other fields of study - which consider the symptom as a indicative of a organic disease's truth, signal, sign or hallmark and, therefore, as something which must be eliminated in order to the patient could achieve the cure -, Psychoanalysis assumes that the symptom is something which reveals a truth about the unconscious subject. The symptom under this perspective can not be understood as something which belongs uniquely to the pathology's sphere, but rather as a intermediation of the relationship between the subject and his desire through language: by the symptom there is a satisfaction beyond the pleasure principle. The symptom is clinically important because the subject demands the analyst for the cessation from a malaise's repetition, which causes him a particular suffering. The psychoanalytical treatment, therefore, guides the subject in a way he can make himself free from this "existing symptom's recurring insistence" (Dias, 2006, p.403) by the signifier's path. Therefore, this research's initial point takes into account the signifier's and, more generally, the languge's matter [langage] and the Lacan's assertion that the unconscious is structured like a language [langage]. It is, as Lacan said, a matter of "undo by word what was made by word". (AU)
