Abstract

The expansion of the urbanized area of the city of São Paulo made the issues related to housing become central between the end of the nineteenth century and the beginning of the twentieth century. Therefore, marketing products for this industry was a profitable venture. Ernesto Dias de Castro was included in this context as a partner of Ernesto de Castro & Cia, who sold materials for civil construction. His performance and the influence of his enterprise compose the urban mosaic of São Paulo. In this way, the objective of this research is to understand the relationship of this engineer with the urbanization of the city of São Paulo and how he conducted the import and distribution trade, interconnecting with other regions of Brazil, North America and Europe. Through the biography, it is tried to understand the relations of this migrant person of Rio Grande do Sul, within the urban history of the city of São Paulo. (AU)
