Abstract

This project is a proposal of a synchronic functional analysis of semi-insubordinate constructions in Brazilian Portuguese. The notion of semi-insubordination arises in consonance with that of insubordination, which defines subordinate constructions employed independently, without a main clause to which it relates syntactically. A semi-insubordinate construction, on the other hand, is formed by a clause with typical marks of subordination preceded by a non-clause element to which it is syntactically related in a similar way to subordination. Literature attests to the existence of semi-insubordinate constructions in other languages and presents some characteristics that allow to distinguish them from similar structures. In this project, the first on this approach, it is proposed to collect real occurrences of utterances formed by a preceding element followed by a que-clause and to apply tests to it in order to verify which elements constitute semi-insubordinate constructions in Brazilian Portuguese, form yet to be described in that language.
