Abstract

The gallbladder mucoceles and cholelithiasis are conditions that can stay asymptomatic in dogs, but when symptomatic it needs a suitable treatment. During the physical exam and history it is possible to identify symptoms such as abdominal pain, jaundice, vomit, lethargy and acholic feces, and fever is a common signal in inflammatory conditions. The definitive diagnosis of this disease is usually found with a ultrasonographic exam. This condition leads to an increase of the pressure in the gallbladder that can result in a process of necrosis of the gallbladder and biliary duct and even a biliary peritonitis. Some cases can be controlled with clinical treatment, and there are some relates about the use of Traditional Medicine Chinese, but in most cases the surgical treatment is the best option. The cholecystectomy is the most used technique, whose peri-operative mortality is between 21,7 to 40%, if the animal stays stable during peri-operative, the prognosis is favorable. Some of the complications that can occur in this surgery are biliary peritonitis, laceration of the gallbladder and the cystic duct, that can evolve to the avulsion of the common biliary duct and possible internal bleeding. The objective of this study is to evaluate the clinical-surgical approach of the gallbladder diseases, and the postoperative evolution if surgical treatment and the clinical evolution when clinical treatment was chosen, in order to know the benefits and risks of the use of each protocol.
