Abstract

Schinus terebinthifolius Raddi is popularly known as aroeira, aroeira da praia, aroeira vermelha or pink pepper. It is a native plant to South America, amply distributed in Brazil. It has been used as a medicinal plant for many years due to its anti-inflammatory, wound-healing, antimicrobial and anti-tumor activity; and popularly applied to the treatment of respiratory tract and urinary tract infections, diarrhea, sexually transmitted diseases and ulcers. The purpose of this study is to isolate fractions from the ethanolic extracts of flowers, fruit and leaves by CCC technique. This technique presents several advantages compared to a classical column liquid chromatography (LC); and is being increasingly applied to the study of natural products with complex matrixes and used in combination with other solid phase technologies for further polishing step.On return at UNICAMP, CCC fractions or isolated compounds will be submitted to in vitro tests to establish their biological properties (antimicrobial, antioxidant and cytotoxic activities). Isolated compounds will be identified by high resolution mass spectrometry and comparison to literature, and, if enough material is obtained, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) 1H and 13C.
