Abstract

ROVs (Remotely Operated Vehicles) and AUVs (Autonomous Underwater Vehicles) are widely used today in many areas, such as petroleum stations and ocean exploration. Being able to merge the main characteristics of these equipments into one system is what we call an HROV (Hybrid Remotely Operated Vehicle). The main research (Development of Modular Design for a Bioinspired ROV) consists in conceiving a design that incorporates all functionalities into one modular biomimetic HROV, which is primarily composed of three parts: the upper one, which can be characterized as an AUV, due to the possibility to operate individually; the intermediary module, which is an interface housing the batteries and connections to the upper and the lower module, that can be configured to operate with robotic legs or conveyor belts, depending on its applicability. One major proposal of the main research is to rely on biomimicry to conceive the structure and design of the upper module, aiming more versatility and better hydrodynamic performance. This project aims to collaborate with NTNU AMOS team during their initial tests with LAUV Fridtjof from OceanScan, cooperating with the first experiments to be conducted over the research project "Hydrodynamics of AUV in near free surface operations" guided by Claudio Coreixas with support of AMOS researchers. Being able to follow the experiments, participating of the methodology applied in their tests, collecting useful data about hydrodynamic performances and gathering experience from their expertise in this area would be of great value for the HROV design itself.
