Abstract

The Green Button initiative is an industry-led effort that responds to a call-to-action from the White House to provide utility customers with easy and secure access to their energy usage information in a consumer-friendly and computer-friendly format. Electricity consumption generates a large amount of information and data. As the energy is consumed a lot of information about this consumption is being generated. The initiative indicates that if consumers are better acquainted with their consumption profile, they can save resources and also help the country accelerate in sustainability projects. Countries such as the USA, Canada, Australia and some in Europe have already joined this initiative, however there is still a need to improve the structure and data model so that it is possible to build applications that favor access to data by the community at large. The main objective of this research is to propose and develop an Linked Data Service application model based on the use of ontologies, inferences and best practices of Linked Data and Semantic Web technologies for the systematic conversion of large volumes of energy data (Big Data) based on the initiative of the Green Button, for semantic datasets, enriched and linked to other datasets available. The proposed research is characterized as a descriptive and analytical study, based on a bibliographic study and part of the exploratory development, in the proposition of an application model. As a result, it is expected to offer a data structure framework that facilitates the process of data consumption by the civil community, with as much meaning and semantics as possible, as well as to seek the transfer of technology knowledge about the use of energy data that can leverage similar research in the near future in Brazil.
