Abstract

The atrophic ridges have been a challenge in the oral rehabilitation with osseointegrated implants. Autogenous bone graft represents the gold standard in alveolar ridge augmentation. However, high resorption rates and donor site morbidity limit it use, and deproteinized bovine bone (DPBB) are a viable alternative. DPBB can be presented in particulate form or compacted in a block, similar to the autogenous bone block. However, there are few studies evaluating the DPBB graft incorporation to the receptor site and its remodeling properties. The aim of this study is to evaluate the macro and micro structure of biopsies obtained from DPBB block graft (Bonefill Porous Block - Bionnovation, Brazil) and autogenous bone block graft, both used for ridge augmentation in implant patients. Patients previously submitted to ridge augmentation will be selected for this study. A 2mm thickness cylindric bone biopsy will be performed during implant placement. Specimens will first be processed in 10% formaldehyde for 48h, washed for 24h and after stored in 70% alcohol, after will be processed in a digital microCT scan to analyze macro and micro structural characteristics of grafts, at last obtained data will be tabulated for statistical analysis.
