Abstract

The growth of Brazilian cities, especially since the 1960s, associated with inefficient planning, has caused innumerable environmental problems that affect the quality of life of the population. Based on the theoretical and methodological proposal of the Urban Climate System (MONTEIRO, 1976), this study aims to investigate the effects of urban and peri-urban agriculture in the municipality of Florianópolis, in the state of Santa Catarina, regarding temperature conditions and humidity, the main climatic elements responsible for thermal comfort. For this, the images of the Landsat 8 satellite will be treated and analyzed in order to obtain the surface temperatures and the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), which will serve as the basis for the selection of points for the installation of temperature and humidity sensors of the air in order to understand the pattern in terms of increasing or decreasing these elements of the climate during the day. The use of these two procedures (fixed point measurement and remote sensing) will aid in the detailed knowledge of urban environments, making it possible to identify the places in the city that are most warmed up, and the role of the areas used for urban and periurban agriculture in the characteristics of temperature and humidity. The aim of the research is to diagnose the effects of urban and peri-urban agriculture activities in mitigating the intensity of the urban heat islands. (AU)
