Abstract

Over the last years orthopedic procedures for bone repairs due to trauma, new implants, as well as new surgical procedures, have been developed. In this context, new surgical procedures and new materials for bone repair have been developed. One of the most outstanding alternatives is the development ofscaffolds. One of the ways to produce scaffolds with adequate mechanical properties and bioactive behavior is the production of poly (lactic acid) composites,PLA, with bioactive ceramic fillers, such as bioglass, hydroxyapatite (HA) and b-tricalcium phosphate (b-TCP). Conventional techniques for producing polymer composites / bioactive fillers usually employ solvents and lead the formation of morphology with non-uniform distribution of pore sizes.In this project the preparation of PLA scaffolds / bioactive ceramic fillers will beperformed using the FDM technique, 3D printing, thus it is possible to obtain bioactive scaffolds with controlled morphology (size of pores that mimic the bone structure). The obtained scaffolds will be characterized with respect to their mechanical properties, compression test, and bioactive behavior, through cell adhesion and proliferation assays with osteoblastic cells.
