Abstract

Leishmaniasis are infectious-parasitic diseases caused by several species of protozoa of the genus Leishmania that mainly affect dogs and humans causing health, social and economic consequences worldwide. Dogs are the main domestic reservoirs of Leishmania infantum (syn. L. chagasi) and have been found to be infected in all outbreaks where there is human disease, so they are considered the main links in the disease transmission cycle. The identification of the circulating parasite in a certain endemic area is of paramount importance for epidemiological studies and serves as a support to the establishment of prophylactic and control measures. In the present study were used the data already realized of parasitological, serological and molecular diagnoses of samples from dogs from Bauru-SP region focusing on the standardization and application of the High Resolution Melting (HRM) technique for the identification of Leishmania species involved in canine infections diagnosed, given that the data may be useful in phylogenetic studies, in the prevention of the disease, as well as in the development of new drugs.
