Abstract

The internship project herein proposed aims to understand the relationship between the geosystems concept and spatial planning in research studies from 56 postgraduate programs in Geography in Brazil between 1971-2015. This survey shall contribute to the development of parts 3 and 4 of the general project (final chapters) and shall be a further supporting pillar for the theoretical and practical reflection on the use of the geosystems concept in Brazil. The discussion revolves around the purpose of the concept: what is geosystems in practice in Brazil? How does it stand as a tool-concept for the understanding and improvement of landscapes and environments largely degraded by spatial practices? In this regard, the study focuses on the reflection that geosystems should be seen not only as an academic topic, but also as a tool with great potential for public policies targeted at recognizing and respecting local and regional potentialities. Therefore, the internship at CEGOT (Center for the Study of Geography and Spatial Planning) shall contribute to building theoretical-methodological expertise so as to bring results to the analysis of the general project, adding to the previous knowledge on the use of geosystems in conjunction with (landscape and environmental) spatial planning.
