Abstract

This research seeks to investigate the characteristics of the Aristotelian tradition of the commentary, using the hypothesis that the dialectic is the philosophical methodology that is used for such an exegetical purpose. Thus, the thesis that I present to defend is that the philosophical appropriation in the case of the Aristotelian tradition is a methodological question and not a doctrinal commitment. The employment of dialectic as a logical tool will make possible, then, the hermeneutic process that builds up this particular tradition. In order to make that evident, I aim to study the passages where the commentators of the De Anima analyze the same argument, so I can examine the logical tools employed for such an analysis, the kind of argument that is being produced by the aid of such hermeneutical devices, and the consequences and philosophical developments that come from that procedure.
