Abstract

The main goal of this project is to synthesise novel ionic liquids from renewable resources and their role in biomass conversion. This project is divided in two main proposals. The first one is based on hydrogen sulfates betaines as organocatalyst in carbohydrates dehydration. Water-soluble carbohydrates (fructose, glucose and sucrose) and polyssacharides (microcrystalline cellulose) will be studied, and real feedstocks such as sugarcane molasses, native and pretreated sugarcane bagasse. In addition, continuous microreactors will be tested in the production of carbohydrates derivatives. The second proposal is based on chemical modification of Polyethylene Glycol (PEG) with choline aminoacids for lignin fractionation and conversion. It will be applied PEG with different mass distribution and aminoacids with aromatic (phenylalanine, tyrosine and tryptophan) and basic (lysine, histidine, arginine) side chain for the synthesis of the compounds. After the synthesis, these compounds will be applied in the chemical modificatiom, depolymerization and synthesis of aromatic coumpounds from sugarcane lignin. (AU)
