Abstract

An osteomyelitis is commonly described as a complication of musculoskeletal surgical procedures in several species. New methods have been studied in order to control an infection through high levels of antimicrobial concentration in the infectious center. The biomaterials associated with different types of antimicrobials have been developed to fulfill this task. From the information received from the bacterial agents plus most of the consumed and antimicrobials commonly used in the routine, stand out the ciprofloxacin hydrochloride, amicacin sulfate and gentamicin sulfate. This study intends to use the incorporation of these antimicrobials in a biomaterial based on chitosan, hydroxyapatite and carbon nanotube, and to evaluate the effectiveness of the release of these drugs. The impregnation of the biomaterial with the antimicrobials will be carried out in two distinct ways, one at the moment of formation of the biomaterial and another one after it has already been structured. The rate of drug release will be evaluated in vitro by ultraviolet spectrophotometry. The project was submitted to the Ethics Committee on the Use of Animals (CEUA) on February 26, 2018, and is currently being analyzed. The project is linked to the Research Support to FAPESP in 2016 / 21997-1
