Role of IFI16 in genesis and development of periapical lesion induced in mice

Abstract

IFI16 (interferon gamma - inducible protein - 16) is an intracellular multifunctional protein. The main role of IFI16 is the pathogenic DNA detection inside the nucleus. It functions as an intracellular recognition sensor that activates inflammatory responses against host DNA and microorganisms. It may also be associated with higher levels of periodontal microorganisms and increase clinical parameters of periodontal disease. Although there are studies demonstrating the participation of IFI16 in periodontal disease, no studies have been performed to evaluate the presence of IFI16 in the development of the periapical lesion. Thus, the aim of this study will be to evaluate the participation of IFI16 and IFN-±/²/³ in the genesis and development of induced periapical lesion in mice teeth by means of histological and immunohistochemical analyzes. From a total of 65 C57BL/6 mice, will be perform the periapical lesion in the first lower molars in 40 of them divided. In 2, 7, 14, 28 and 42 days, 8 animals from the experimental group and 5 animals from the control group will be euthanized. The specimens will be submitted to histotechnical process for the description of the root canal, the apical and periapical regions. The identification of IFI16 and IFN-±/²/³ will be performed by immunostaining. The data will be analyzed with the aid of Graph Pad Prism 5, using the appropriate tests for each of the evaluations. The level of significance adopted will be 5%.
