Abstract

In Brazil, colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most common cancer among men and the second among women. Despite the high incidence and importance of colorectal cancer in Brazil, little is known about the prevalence of colorectal neoplasia in the asymptomatic population. CCR screening is able to reduce incidence and mortality by detecting early stage cancer and preventing cancer by removing precursor lesions. Recently, the CRC screening program of the Hospital de Cancer de Barretos was implemented. The characterization of the clinical findings of a screening population and the prevalence of baseline colorectal neoplasia may guide the better organization of this program. Our hypothesis is that early outcomes of our screening program based on FIT are different from other populations due to differences in socio-demographic factors.
