Abstract

Zika virus (ZIKV) is an arbovirus that has gained high relevance in recent years. Outbreaks of infection began to become prevalent globally from the year 2007, with an epidemic in Micronesia. Since then, five of the seven continents have been affected. Infected individuals commonly present symptoms similar to those of other arboviruses, such as dengue. However, Zika infection can affect fetal development or lead to the development of Guillain-Barré syndrome in adults, both of which can lead to death. Recently, with the advancement of new generation sequencing and transcriptomic studies, it has been discovered that some long non-coding RNAs have the ability to regulate the immune system. Following this premise, some studies of the expression of these RNAs in other viral infections have already been published, but there are still no works related to the zika virus. Therefore, the objective of this project is to study the transcriptome of different mammals infected by ZIKV, in order to understand the role of these RNAs during infection and what are the possible mechanisms of gene regulation involved in this process through RNA-seq technology.
