Abstract

Augusto dos Anjos (1884-1914) is a poet from Paraíba (Brazil) whose verses have a multitude of facets that provide the researcher with several gateways for analysis. In particular the spirituality of his poems, such as Christian religiosity, continues an aspect not very well explored - being cited in scarce productions and dealed in depth in only one master's degree work, O poeta do hediondo: feísmo e o cristianismo em Augusto dos Anjos (2008), in which the author defines hisperspective of Manichean Christian mentality, which would be present in his verses. This work purports to explore what would be the presence of two Christianity in the poetry by Augusto dos Anjos: one in accordance with common sense and metaphysical matrix and another, opposite to the usual, which has telluric characteristics and is influenced by the scientific thoughts that surrounded the poet. The research objectives are: to analyze, comparatively, poems in which Christian aspects can be identified and to underpin the hypothesis of reading that led to analytical divergences with Oliveira Master's dissertation. The methodology is constituted by the comparative analysis of the poems delimited as corpus. By proposed questions approach, it is intend to establish a panorama - which is beginning to be traced in this initial stage of the project - capable of illustrating the opposing forms that Christian spirituality could acquire in the poetry by Augusto dos Anjos. Thus the study expects to contribute with the analysis of a facet of the respective poetry so far not been adequately explored, under an original perspective.
