Abstract

Mood disorders are among the most prevalent psychiatric disorders. Despite new findings, advances in the study of neurobiological bases and therapeutic approaches to these diseases need to be addressed. High rates of recurrence, persistent subsyndromal symptoms and therapeutic refractoriness are clinically challenging aspects and also require further investigation. The number of individuals diagnosed with Mood Disorders among adolescents in conflict with the law, in custody in Brazil, is unknown, so the need to develop strategies to approach such complex diseases in such a vulnerable population is unavoidable. This cross-sectional study will be conducted in the Center for Socio-education for Juvenile Offenders, currently with approximately 70 male minors, aged between 12 and 17 years old. Participants will be interviewed through the Brazilian Version of the Schedule for Affective Disorders and Schizophrenia for School Aged Children (K-SADS-PL) which is a semistructured psychiatric interview to identify disorders in the 6 to 18 years old. Disorders of Axis I of Mental Disorders of DSM-5 and ICD 10 for children and adolescents. Those over 18 will be interviewed through the Brazilian version of the Structured Clinical Interview for the Humor Spectrum (SCIMOODS-VB). Participants diagnosed with Mental Retardation and Global Developmental Disorders will not be included in this study. This study intends to collaborate with a greater understanding about the diseases that affect this population, and can help as part of the planning and development of appropriate policies for the mental health needs of this age group.
