Abstract

The present study aims to investigate and evaluate the progression of the periapical lesion in different periods on chronic stress conditions and to explore the mechanisms of stimulation of the sympathetic nervous system and the adrenal pituitary hypothalamus axis. In a first step we will only verify the influence of chronic stress in several periods of development of the periapical lesion. In a second step, based on the results obtained from the first step, a possible pharmacological pathway of inflammatory modulation will be investigated. Considering the positive effect of the use of Selective Serotonin-Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRI) antidepressants in modulating the inflammatory response in periodontal disease under stress conditions, fluoxetine will be used as an SSRI. It will also be evaluated its association with ²-adrenergic blocker (propranolol), which shows the ability to inhibit possible side effects when using fluoxetine. An animal model of apical periodontitis and chronic stress will be used. Expression of the RANKL and OPG markers will be evaluated as well as the expression of interleukins IL-1 IL-6, IL-10, IL-11 and IL-17. The data will be evaluated by descriptive and inferential statistical tests, according to data obtained, according to their normality, with parametric or non-parametric tests. (AU)
