Abstract In this study, we intend to evaluate how the elements that compose urban forests influence the bird community on a Neotropical region. Our hypotheses are that (a) wooded areas and riparian forests influence positively the connectivity and (b) connectivity, tree density, fragment size and percentage of native forest positively influence the taxonomic and functional aspects of the urban bird community and urban noise would negatively affect the bird community. The project will be developed in Bauru, because its landscape presents a high heterogeneity that will allow to explore the gradients of interest and to test the hypotheses above. The research will be developed in the following stages: elaboration of an land cover/land use map for the study area; connectivity's evaluation with the LSCorridors program; selection of sampling points; calculation of the variables (tree density, fragment size and percentage of native forest); survey of bird species by the method point counting in the parks and linear transect in the streets; measurement in decibels of the noise. In order to evaluate the connectivity, we will calculate the average weight of the paths generated by the LSCorridors and also the degree of spatial congruence, made by the chi-square test. In order to calculate the functional aspects of the bird communitys, we will use the functional diversity indices Rao's Quadratic Entropy (RaoQ) and Richness Funcional (FRic). Generalized Linear Models will be used to verify how the independent variables (tree density, fragment size, connectivity, noise and percentage of native forest) influence the dependent variables: the functional (RaoQ and FRic) and taxonomic aspects (species richness and frequency of individuals) of the bird community. | |
