Abstract

This project concerns a comparative study between the Auditory threshold search methods with pure tone stimulus and Narrow Band (NB) in elderly with hearing loss candidates for use of hearing aids since in descending hearing loss it can be found best thresholds using NB stimulus and possibly better results in the adaptation of hearing aids. Objective - To verify the benefit obtained by the elderly with the use of hearing aids from the acoustic gain prescription based on the audiometric thresholds obtained with pure tone modulated frequency and with narrow band noise (narrowband). Method This is a descriptive cross-sectional study that will be Integrated Nucleus of Assistance, Research and Teaching in Hearing (NIAPEA) of Federal University of São Paulo (UNIFESP).The sample of this study should be made up of 30 elderly people, aged over 60 years of age with moderate to severe sensorineural hearing loss the bilateral symmetric severe downconverter with thresholds at 4kHzequal to or less than 70 dBHL. There will be two groups: by 15 elderly people in whom the hearing aids will be adapted from the thresholds obtained with pure tone and group 2: by 15 elderly people in whom the hearing aids will be adapted from the audibility thresholds obtained with narrow band These elderly will be evaluated before the adaptation of dentures and after three months of amplification using the following tests: IPRF, Speech Intelligibility Index (SII), Recognition of sentences in the silence and noise and by the International Questionnaire on Amplification Apparatus Individual Sound (IQ-AASI). The data will be analyzed by means of statistics descriptive and inferential.
