Abstract Yttrium stabilized Tetragonal Zirconia Polycrystal (Y-TZP) instability at low temperature due to the tetragonal to monoclinic phase transformation can lead to Low Temperature Degradation (LTD) and compromise its mechanical properties. This project proposes the synthesis, structural characterization and survival probability analyses of polycrystalline Zirconia-Toughened-Alumina composites (ZTA) in 70% (Al2O3) - 30% (ZrO2) composition, before and after artificial aging. The ceramic powders will be formulated for uniaxial and isostatic pressing of disk shaped specimens divided in three experimental groups: 1) Alumina (n=105) 2) Translucent Zirconia - Zpex (n=105) and 3) ZTA-Zpex (n=105). After sintering and polishing, half of the specimens for each group will be aged in autoclave (134°C, 2.2 bar, 20 hours) to simulate the LTD process. The specimens will be characterized by XRD for analyses of the crystalline phases. The possible changes in the surface after aging will be characterized by SEM and interferometry (Sa, Sq, Sdr) and mechanically by nanoindentation (hardness and modulus of elasticity). The biaxial flexural strength (ISO 6872: 2015) will be evaluated before (n=30/group) and after aging (n=30/group), for knowledge of survival probability, Weibull modulus and characteristic strength. To evaluate the fatigue survival, accelerated life tests will be performed (n=18/group), followed by qualitative fractographic analysis. This proposal is part of the "jovem pesquisador" Award FAPESP 2012/19078-7 and presents a schedule for BEPE scholarship. (AU) | |
