Abstract

In Brazil, cheerleading is a very recent activity, but has been gaining visibility and practitioners. The modality seeks to promote a cheerleading during sporting events or in competitions including in your routine dance moves, gymnastics acrobatics and formation of complex position like stunts and pyramid. High impact, repetitive effort, axial load and rotational forces in cheerleading result in a variety of lesions in wrist and hand besides a non-specific pain in wrist generally observed in this athletes. Therefore, it is necessery a study that evaluates the strenght, muscle electrical activity and the wrist function of cheerleading practitioners. Thus, the objective of this study will be to compare a muscle strenght and the muscle electrical activity of the flexors and extensors of the wrist between cheerleaders with and without report of pain in the wrist, besides correlating with the function of the upper limb and function in the sport. The volunteers will be divided in two groups: control group (CG) composed of asymptomatic athletes (without pain in the wrist) and symptomatic group (SG) (athletes with pain in the wrist). The questionnaire Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand (DASH) will be used to evaluate the function of the upper limb. The palmar grip strength will be evaluated by a manual dynamometer and the torque isometric of wrist flexor and extensor will be mensured on an isokinetic dynamometer associated to the evaluation of the electromyographic activity. Appropriate statistical tests according to the normality of the data will be applied to compare the variables between groups. The correlations between the variables will be evaluated by the correlation of Pearson or Spearman (±=0,05).
