Abstract

Curation applies to Information Science due to its characteristics that trigger in the processes of treatment of collections are they physical or digital and its processes comprise a continuous cycle of activities that involve the treatment of collections, be it a scientific and cultural heritage, among others. The impact of new technologies is increasing in collections of different spaces and the insertion of such collections in the digital universe presupposes new forms of treatment and study. In this context, a point of convergence between the collections of the digital and traditional environment is the curatorial activities that cover a procedural cycle of treatment, regardless of its typology, support or domain. Thus, the research problem consists of investigating how preservation and digital curation should be aligned so that these joint processes can guarantee the perpetuity of the digital cultural heritage in the long run? Based on this research problem, it is expected that the results will present the relation to the processes of preservation of digital collections and digital curation in the context of Information Science, identifying the processes involved, as well as their characteristics, for the collections of cultural heritage, together the exposure of the principles of representation and organization of information.
