Abstract

Introduction: Pregnancy is a very important event that brings repercussions to life projects, physical and psychological changes in the life of men and women. The father, in this process, lives and faces the demands of pregnancy. In the situation of a pregnancy classified as high risk, the concerns arising from this condition are added to the context. Specifically, the man experiences fears about the risk of death of the wife and child and questions about how he can fit into that context. Objective: to analyze the social support received by the father who experiences high risk pregnancies with attention to the place of prenatal care in this process. Methodology: The study will be realized with men whose wives received the diagnosis of high-risk gestation and are assisted at the Ambulatory of Special Care of Pregnancy (ACEG) of a municipality in the interior of São Paulo. The research of narrative was listed as a methodological reference, aiming to extract, analyze and understand life stories and Symbolic Interactionism as a theoretical reference.
